Life on Mars es una serie de televisión británica emitida por primera vez en la BBC One en enero de 2006 y posteriormente continuada con una segunda temporada en 2007. La serie ha sido galardonada con un premio Emmy y BAFTA como mejor serie dramática de la televisión Británica.
El formato de la serie mezcla ciencia ficción (especialmente viaje en el tiempo) con las tramas policiacas. El personaje principal es Sam Tyler el Inspector Detective en Jefe de la policía de Manchester (interpretado por John Simm), quien tras ser atropellado accidentalmente por un auto en el año 2006, se encuentra a si mismo en el año 1973, en donde trabaja para la antigua policía de Manchester y Salford, en el cargo de Inspector Detective bajo el mando del Inspector Detective en Jefe Gene Hunt (interpretado por Philip Glenister)
